IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT BUT IT IS YOUR PROBLEM
or How You Don't Have To Feel Guilty But You Do Have To Feel
A lot of people don’t seem to like Truth and Reconciliation Day.
That’s fair. We’re not supposed to like it.
We’re supposed to use it to pause and ponder its meaning and think of ways we can make things better and keep them that way.
Kind of like Remembrance Day.
No one says “Dude, I cannot wait to party on Remembrance Day!”
Well, maybe some goon does but that person is a goon and we expect goons to do goon-like things.
What’s of note to me is the amount of people on social media who post some seriously negative things about Truth and Reconciliation Day.
They think it’s all made up.
They think the Residential School system wasn’t that bad.
They think they’ve had their own suffering and hardships generationally so quit ‘whining’.
Of course, those people are morons at best and agitators at worst.
It dawned on me though that many of the people who write those types of negative posts just don’t like feeling blamed for something they didn’t directly do.
They’ve got their own problems.
That’s fair… HOWEVER, they’re not being blamed.
We’re pointing out a bad thing and saying…
“Hey, look at this bad thing. It’s a bad thing isn’t it? Bad things are bad, right?”
The correct response to that is easy…
”Yes, bad things are bad and we should stop them from happening.”
You might not be the bad guy but that doesn’t matter.
Sometimes in life, bad things are not our fault but they are our problem.
We shouldn’t get upset about that.
It’s pointless to be upset about that.
A problem is a problem.
We just need to recognize the problem and work to fix it.

Well put. My favourite person to blame for this whole mess is Queen Victoria. It was during her reign that kids were scooped from the streets of London to be transported to servitude in Canada and Australia. Kids and kids of the poor and disenfranchised were and are easy game for the wealthy elite. Scoop ‘‘em up and turn them into proper British citizens. At least get them off the streets where they make us look bad . Let there be no oversight of their treatment. We need this day to think of our treatment of aboriginal children . It was a vile extension of the ongoing treatment of the poor and disenfranchised.
