It can be challenging to make new friends as an (older) adult. Community theatre was my gateway to new, lifelong friends. I'm proud to be a musical theatre geek. I'm also a Corrie fan while loEastebdersnders too, which is not common. I look forward to listening to the podcast.
I do miss TMST. I still have coffee in my mug. I do think of some of the regulars and see their posts come up in social. Met a few in person; all are great people.
Sometimes we need a catalyst like you & Shannon to help bring community together.
We each can be that catalyst!! We just have to take that step forward.
Being part of something does help motivate and keep me moving forward. Isolation with the couch sounds inviting but the positives of together is motivating.
I love this! I'm part of a fandom that celebrates a TV show. They have their own conventions and everything. The show went off the air after 15 seasons in 2020 but the principal and supporting cast participate in these weekend experiences. I have been lucky to attend 4, so far. The shared experiences are so wonderful. So thank you for sharing this post today, it gave me great memory smiles!
Two of my favourite things in one place. I absolutely miss TMST. The part about connecting with the other viewers is so true. Even now, I find myself wondering how Bob and Bette and of course, Derek are doing. I watched the second Corrie St episode today and was answering your questions, and yelling at the screen. Just like old times :) Thanks for being part of my life again - I've missed you !
Sadly in this age of covid I have become more of a recluse and have lost many connections since I retired and moved. You are more brave than I to attend a large social gathering where people are singing. I haven't had covid yet and I am trying hard not to get it, but at a steep cost. No shared experiences. I miss TMST too.
Curiously Covid was the making of the community I live in now. A new building ,advertised as pet friendly, a bit upscale but not so you would notice. We all moved in as the place was being finished so everyone was new. Then everything shut down because of Covid. With so many of us out on the pavement walking our dogs and no one to visit and no place to go, we began chatting with each other at a distance ,outside. Three years on, many have come and gone but there has been a core community developed. We have our FB page, we get together for pot luck, there is a little community tiny library which a tenant built and mounted and presumably administers. We have an exchange spot for other unwanted items. This is an older tenant group but mixed in are young people, young families . We all get along pretty well and quietly go about helping each other. I have had a bad hip and limited mobility. The young couple next to me come water my flowers, another younger woman shovels out my car, etc etc etc . I think it is an unusual occurrence in an ordinary rental building and the shared experience of Covid cemented it.

I LOVED TMST! It was a lifeline for me during a difficult time in my life. I’d reconnect in a heartbeat!
