It’s all also quite very absolutely not funny
Donald Trump is very funny.
The things he says.
The things he does.
He’s really funny.
I find myself laughing when I read/see/hear the latest thing he’s said or done.
Not because it isn’t serious, but, I guess, because it is so serious.
It’s beyond satire.
And as a guy who makes part of his living from satire, I’m getting a little concerned.
When Trump fires the jobs report boss because he doesn’t like the jobs report numbers… that’s funny.
I mean, there’s nothing to make fun of. It’s evidently ridiculous/hilarious.
When Trump calls in the National Guard to patrol the streets of Washington, DC to fight crime that is at its lowest point in three decades… that’s funny.
I mean, it’s dumb. Beyond dumb. Laughable.
Of course, it’s all also quite very absolutely not funny.
Compare it to that video of the brawl in the McDonald’s in Ottawa from a number of years ago.
A chaotic scene like out of an old cowboy movie saloon fight.
Fists are flying when suddenly… a man enters frame brandishing a small raccoon.
This… is funny.
Though, most sanity loving people would also concur that in a much more rational sense it’s all also quite very absolutely not funny.
People using raccoons as concealed weapons is generally bad for society.
It’s also terrible for raccoons.
Watching the Trump regime flounder and founder on one idiotic proclamation or act or another is entertaining, at first… but soon it’s all also quite very absolutely not funny.
As a Canadian it’s like watching an old episode of the Jerry Springer show unfolding live on the house next door’s front lawn and someone has just found out there brother’s-neighbour’s dog is is secretly married to their mother and all hell breaks loose and… oh god! Steve* has lost control!
*Steve was the bald bodyguard/security guy for the show and if you know that you probably laughed at the previously line. If not, just laugh so you don’t make it awkward.
The point being… it’s funny… but, uh, the chaos is getting dangerously close to our house and generally out of hand and someone should really get that family some therapy.
Trump is funny like that.
Because it feels like we’re just watching it.
Except we’re not just watching it, we’re living it.
It’s all real and it’s all also quite very absolutely not funny.
Trump might be a joke but he’s the most dangerous joke in the world.
