I really believe that the highest aspiration is to become a decent human being. I’ve met a few people who seem to have been born in this happy state. That’s simply how they’re made. These people are vanishingly rare. For the vast majority of us, it’s a long slog, full of ups and downs, two steps forward and often, several steps back. We make mistakes and sometimes (I dare to admit it) we simply need to be terrible human beings. If only for brief, soul clearing, destructive minutes. I’m a work in progress that will never reach perfection. I really hope that we can all forgive ourselves and each other for the slip ups along the way.

I found myself reading this and reflecting on who and how people revealed themselves.

It makes me also considering how my own self reveals me to others

Great advice

This is spot on Sir!!

The world is often a chaotic place and lots of folks are sadly operating from a place of fear. I give everybody a break until they prove that it is not warranted, then I move on.

I am so thankful that people have given me the benefit of the doubt and a few “chances” not to be an idiot. I am also grateful not to have written off some folks who made really big mistakes with me. Thanks for this excellent reminder!

I’m not sure if it ever existed, but we have lost the ability to discuss and debate without deteriorating into name calling and polarized positions . I know I was not raised in a home where ideas were discussed. You took a position and didn’t budge. But we need to develop the ability to talk to each other calmly without rancor.
