The population of Ontario is somewhere between 16.2 and 16.6 million. The GTA (Greater Toronto Area) has between 9.1 and 9.5 million. That means that more than half of the people in Ontario live in the GTA. Doug Ford should be doing everything he can for the people in the GTA. He should not waste taxpayers money on places like Ottawa, where only 1.1 million people live. And rural Ontario, like where I live, should bless the parking lot Doug Ford walks on. Without the subsidies paid to companies like Xplore, I would not have the Internet that allows me to watch Politics Is Broken.
What I noticed on my visits to Alberta is that even without a provincial sales tax, beer and wine is more expensive in Alberta than Ontario. Beer and wine is more expensive in private stores in British Columbia than Ontario. But since Doug Ford broke the contract with The Beer Store, set to expire in 2026 anyway, and cost us a cool 225 million (but there’s no money for health care), the cost of beer in what Beer Store stores remain has risen. Only LCBO stores maintain the original cheaper price.
We were told privatization would improve selection, and lower the cost of beer. Anyone who has bought wine or beer in a grocery store or convenience store knows the claim is ludicrous. Selection is extremely limited. They don’t have the capacity. It’s bad for the Canadian craft beer industry and really really bad for people who like good beer but think paying nearly five dollars for one can is ridiculous! People who like good wine? Good luck.
surprised that you didnt mention the Ontario Science Centre debacle. He managed to walk away from that with little reprecussions. The supposed "failing roof" of the centre was said to be a pending disaster and the building had to be closed. Staff let go, exhibits torn down and replaced with small Pop-Up shops in malls across the GTA. Meanwhile the roof is still standing 2+ yrs later and that prime real estate in Don Mills is going to waste with neglect. NOW he wants to build a new Science Centre at Ontario Place. (smaller and hard to get to) He just likes to spend other people's money when we need better wages for nurses and smaller classroom sizes. But those items are exciting enough.

In Alberta, we can buy non alcoholic beer and wine. We have a private owned liquor stores everywhere; you don't have to drive far.

Just so Lisa knows, restaurants and bars are open on Family Day.
