I once had American individualism explained to me as a baseball game.
Though there is still a team when at bat… success depends on the individual.
That one person at bat can score for the benefit of the whole team.
It’s a romantic notion. I like it.
Though it’s a romantic notion that hinges on the guy at bat sockin’ dingers for the benefit of his whole team and not just himself.
The situation, as it stands currently from my perspective, in the US today is such that the person at bat refuses to let anyone else have a turn at bat.
Instead of kicking him out of the game right away, it seems there is a never ending line of pitchers (read: suckers) who figure they can take a shot at striking him out.
They can’t.
He’s struck out countless times and he won’t leave home plate.
He’s lied about about how many home runs he’s hit.
He’s denied ever getting a strike.
He brought his own hats.
He’s even convinced some umpires that he’s doing nothing wrong.
However, he’s no longer playing the same game as everyone else.
I think he’s playing t-ball for one.
America, this is a problem.
The rest of the world sees it and knows it.
When the person at bat stops playing the same game as everyone else, the rules of the game will not stop them.
It’s time to switch games.
It’s time to take up soccer maybe.
Work together.
Test out that whole “united we stand, divided we fall” thing.
